Sixth funding round of One Public Estate opened by Cabinet Office

The Department for Communities and Local Government in partnership with the One Public Estate (OPE) has launched a £54m package for councils to transform unused land into housing.

The OPE programme is a pioneering initiative delivered in partnership by the Local Government Assocation and the Cabinet Office Government Property Unit. Its aim is to work with councils on projects transforming local communities and public services across the UK.

£45m of the cash will be provided through the government who will work with the OPE to invest the remaining £9m of the money through the scheme’s sixth funding round.

The aim is that by 2020, local councils will have:

  • Released enough land for 160,000 properties
  • £615m in capital receipts
  • Saved £158m in running costs
  • Created 44,000 jobs.
